How to get to Calw

It is so easy to get to Calw



By car

  • Autobahn (Motorway) A8 from the direction of Karlsruhe:
    Exit Pforzheim-West (approx. 25 km); follow main road B 463 in the direction of Calw
  • Autobahn A8 from the direction of Ulm/Stuttgart:
    Exit Leonberg (approx. 30 km), follow main road B 295 in the direction of Weil der Stadt to Calw
  • Autobahn A81 from the south/Lake Constance:
    Exit „Gärtringen-Stadtmitte“ [town centre] (approx. 20 km) and follow K 1075; near Deckenpfronn turn left onto the L1022. At the roundabout, take the first exit to the right and follow B 296 in the direction of Calw.

By train
Route Karlsruhe - Pforzheim – Calw – Horb – Tübingen.

Long distance trains (EC, IC, ICE) may best be taken in Karlsruhe with connecting trains via Pforzheim (“Kulturbahn”, line 774)

If you are travelling via Stuttgart we recommend you take the local railway line S6 Stuttgart – Weil der Stadt and change to the bus connection 670 to Calw in Weil der Stadt.

If you visit the Black Forest and plan to stay for one or more nights, the “Black Forest Ticket” is a real bargain. This special-value ticket is based on distance travelled and is inclusive of all supplements for rides on the long-distance trains ICE, IC and EC.

    Bus # 670 RBS / Volz; Calw - Weil der Stadt (connects to local train S6)
  • Area of Böblingen / Sindelfingen:
    Bus # 763 RBS; Calw-Böblingen (connects to local train S1)
  • Greater Pforzheim / Karlsruhe:
    Bus # 710 RVS; Calw-Pforzheim (connects to the local trains S5, S6, R5)

By plane
The next regional and international airport is Stuttgart (approx. 45 km). Take the subway train S 2 or S 3 to the main train station in Stuttgart and change to the local train S 6 to Weil der Stadt; from there take the express bus # 670 to Calw.

VGC
The transport cooperation “Verkehrsgesellschaft Bäderkreis Calw“ (VGC), which operates throughout the district of Calw, offers attractive transport services and a user-friendly fare system to inhabitants and tourists alike. A special one-day family ticket for € 9.00 entitles up to five adults (two children aged between six and eleven count as one adult) to unlimited travel on all buses in the district of Calw; the price for one-day tickets for single travellers is € 6.50 (fares effective as of 02/2009).


Electronic time table
The electronic time table (EFA) for Baden-Württemberg offers a central and comprehensive source of information for all bus and train connections. The EFA gives you access to all time tables of local public transport authorities for all methods of transport in Baden-Württemberg (e.g. bus, train, local train, etc.). Just enter the travel time and destination in order to get a number of alternative connections, whereby all private bus connections are taken into account as well as train connections.

For day trips by bus or train throughout the Northern Black Forest region to Karlsruhe and beyond. Prices: 1 person € 11.50, up to 5 people € 18.00. Available from the bus drivers, at train stations and ticket vending machines. The 24-hour ticket is valid in all three transport networks “Karlsruhe Verkehrsverbund - KVV“, “Verkehrsverbund Pforzheim-Enzkreis (VPE)”, “Verkehrsgemeinschaft Freudenstadt (VGF)” and on all local-transport routes in the entire district of Calw (VGC). Baden-Württemberg “Kulturbahn”
A special “Culture Ticket” is offered on the route Tübingen - Pforzheim and Tübingen - Maulbronn: the ticket enables you to visit many leisure and cultural facilities that are accessible by the Northern Black Forest railway at reduced rates.
The ticket is valid for unlimited travel on the day of purchase from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 a.m. the following day, as well as on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. “Through the Nagold Valley by bike and train“
The Deutsche Bahn AG has a special offer for its route between Pforzheim und Nagold: all biking enthusiasts, irrespective whether they are planning a family excursion or a mountain bike tour, have the opportunity to explore the Nagold valley and its picturesque surrounding area by using the special Nagold valley bikers’ trains.

On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays (all day) as well as Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 a.m. onwards, all passengers of the Nagold Valley Train between Pforzheim and Horb may transport their bikes free of charge (one bike per person). All they need is a valid train ticket.

Calw’s special service
The dial-a-taxi service complements the traditional public transport service in the evenings and at night. Within the district of Calw this special service is available for the towns of Calw, Nagold and Altensteig.
It is especially designed for young people.
In the evenings, the dial-a-taxi service transports passengers to specified destinations in the participating towns and back to their home villages at night.
